Common Areas

Foreside Acres is truly a home-away-from-home! Enjoy full access to our large kitchen and formal dining room. The sunken living room features a railroad theme complete with wood burning oven, dining car booths, and an overhead model train that runs around the entire room. Its sitting area has a large TV with a fainting couch and comfy chairs to enjoy each other’s company. Free wifi throughout the house.

Malletball

Our pride and joy! In 2016, we invented our own recreation sport to be played exclusively here at Foreside Acres. Combining elements of croquet and mini-golf, this 9-hole course is available for use by all guests! Grab a mallet, a ball, and a scorecard and see who can conquer the hills!

Vintage Playground

A unique stop for families! Foreside Acres has an on-site vintage playground. Continually growing, each piece has been saved or salvaged from playgrounds across the state of Iowa.

• Elephant slide: A former fixture to the Iowa State Fairgrounds, these elephant slides were a popular during the 1960s. Many were manufactured by Miracle Playground Co., formerly headquartered here in Grinnell.  An anvil was traded for this slide which started our vintage playground adventure.

• Merry-go-round: Sourced from the literal scrap pile, our merry-go-round was saved from Grinnell’s own Ahrens Park after a recent renovation to its playgrounds. The second piece added to our playground, we managed to grab it before it went to a landfill!

Swings: Every playground needs some swings.  These rubber coated chain swings are fun for kids of all ages.

Teeter Totter: This was made by a farmer with horse drawn ploy and steel tractor wheels and seats. Left in its rustic state, this teeter totter is one smooth glider.

Zebras: These zebra statue pair gives a stately presence and joy for kids to “ride” on.

Grass Tennis Court

A labor of love taking seven years to complete, we have carved a full regulation size grass tennis court into our hillside! This surface is unique for our area. Come experience the joy of playing on grass!

Fishing Pond

One and a half acres in size, our pond has been a feature of our land since the 1950’s. If you’re feeling lucky, head out early in the morning and see what you can pull in! We’re stocked with large-mouth bass, crappie, bluegill, perch, catfish, and grass carp.
